A man in critical but stable condition has been taken to hospital after a shooting at his home in Melbourne’s west.
The incident happened at around 1.20pm (AEDT).
Police were called to the house at Chippendale Road in the West End, in the suburb of Kew, on Thursday.
The man, who has not been named, was found with a gunshot wound to his leg.
He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he remains in a critical but stabilised condition.
No-one else was injured.
“It’s a serious incident and we are investigating,” Detective Inspector Greg Smith from the West Australian Serious and Organised Crime Command said.
“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
Mr Smith said police were still trying to establish exactly what led to the shooting.
“I don’t want to get into any details of the investigation right now but we have had a number of incidents of people shooting themselves at home over the past few months,” he said.
He said police believed the shooting was “isolated”.
“We are still investigating to establish the exact circumstances and where the person came from, and if there is a threat to other people.”
No-body is in custody but the investigation is ongoing.
